Apple MacBook Air M2 (2022)

According to most reviews, the Apple MacBook Air M2 is an outstanding laptop! The pricing makes this laptop a little bit… awkward. There is a cheaper and still good M1 available that might be slower but is still golden.

Is Apple MacBook Air M2 (2022) Worth it?

All New Apple MacBook Air with the Apple Silicon M2 is an excellent laptop in a new package. Reviewers like Andy (from Linus Tech Tips), Dave 2D, the Tech Chap, and many others like this all-new MacBook Air M2 design compared to previous generations. The MacBook air looks like a mini MacBook Pro but is much lighter. The design is not the only thing that has changed for this year’s model.

The screen brightness has slightly improved, meaning you can see it better outdoors. There’s also a better webcam that hides in the notch at the top of the screen. Besides these changes, there are also some other minor changes to make this one of the best laptops on the market today. The fanless design makes this one of the quietest laptops on the market.

For audiophiles, it sports an amazing 3.5mm headphone jack. Furthermore, it has amazing battery life, 2 USB-C ports with thunderbolt USB-4 support, a MagSafe charging port (welcome back!), and a liquid retina Display. Informally, just like the previous version, you can only hook up 1 external display.

Almost all reviewers compare this with the previous model, the MacBook Air M1, and the released 13-inch MacBook Pro.

The MacBook Air M2 has a larger and brighter display compared to the previous model. Especially the larger screen is notable, but it rocks a notch now, which can be inconvenient. Most reviewers say they don’t notice the notch after a while, so it’s not much to worry about.

So is the MacBook Air M2 worth it? To be honest, no. Although you’ll get status points for just buying the latest and most reasonable-looking MacBook Air M2, it’s an expensive laptop that isn’t that much better than the MacBook Air M1, and most people won’t notice the difference from day to day as to performance. So I recommend (as some reviewers also do) the MacBook Air M1, especially when considering the base model or the MacBook M1 Pro if you are thinking of going with a ‘normal’ spec’d MacBook. And if you’re in for a laptop, Windows, or Mac, there are some great alternatives, according to Dave 2D.

Which Apple MacBook Air M2 (2022) should you buy?

The Apple MacBook Air M2 8-core CPU currently sits in a weird spot. When considering the base model with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage (very slow), reviewers recommend using the MacBook Air M1 version instead. On the other end, when you want to buy the Apple MacBook Air M2 with a 10-core GPU chip, 16GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage, you are almost in the price range of the much better 14-inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro version.

So If you consider buying the Apple MacBook Air M2, the sweet spot is the M2 8-core GPU, 16 GB of memory, and 512GB of storage.

What is a great Apple MacBook Air M2 (2022) alternative?

Although the Apple MacBook Air M2 is an outstanding laptop, alternatives are available. Most reviewers recommend the Apple MacBook Air M1 as a cheaper base model alternative. The Dell XPS 13 plus is a great option when looking for a windows alternative. It trades blows on performance and has an astonishing design. Lastly, when considering the high-end M2 Air, you can consider the 14-inch MacBook Pro M1 Pro, pricing comes close, but you’ll get a lot of performance.

2022 MacBook Air M2: Impressively thin. Deceivingly expensive 😈

Review of Macworld Macworld

The MacBook Air with M2 is in many respects a significant improvement over its predecessor. It offers better performance, a more modern design, an improved display, and some smaller but notable improvements.

If you are one of those users who use the MacBook primarily for everyday tasks, such as surfing the web, reading emails or watching videos, you should consider whether the new design is worth it compared to the cheaper $999/£999 M1 MacBook Air. A M1 Macbook Air will be able to handle all these tasks without any problems.

But if you do more with your MacBook or use it for professional applications such as video editing or photo editing, the M2 MacBook Air is definitely worth the extra money compared to its predecessor. In fact, if your budget allows, we recommend jumping to the higher-end model with a 10-core GPU for the extra storage and better graphics. And as always, you should buy as much memory as you can afford

The M1 MacBook Air is definitely a good machine even at more than a year and a half old, but you’ll be much happier with the newer MacBook Air in a year or two.

The new 2022 Apple MacBook Air M2 feels like a fitting leap forward for Apple’s most portable computer and it’s the first Apple MacBook anyone should be considered above all others. It’s a lightweight laptop with a beautiful screen and a powerful new generation of Apple silicon. It’s more expensive than the previous model, but the improvements and additions here justify the expense.

THE GOOD

  • Powerful M2 chip performance
  • Smart new industrial design decisions
  • Excellent build quality and software

THE BAD

  • Price hike over M1 MacBook Air
  • Some right-hand side ports would have been appreciated
  • Not as striking as wedge-style design

The new Apple MacBook Air with the M2 chip is supposed to be a battery life and performance leader in the thin and light laptop category. This MacBook Air is all new for 2022 and the M2 chip is crazy fast but how does it compare to the best Windows Laptops we’ve reviewed? Let’s see how the Ryzen 7 6800U in the Zenbook S 13 OLED and Intel Alder Lake i7-1260P preform vs the Apple M2. So is the MacBook Air worth it?

The MacBook Air M2 is the best Apple laptop for most people, perfect for everyday multitasking and able to handle a good amount of gaming and video editing. It’s the fastest laptop you can get for the money, and an especially big upgrade if you’re coming from an Intel-powered Mac.

The updated Air not only has a new look but its performance is closer to that of a MacBook Pro than past Air models. Along with the upgraded processing power, you’ll find a larger, better display, a full-HD webcam, four-speaker audio and it’s even a touch lighter. You will pay a little more for it, however.

THE GOOD

  • Bigger, brighter screen
  • Modern design with new colors
  • A high-res webcam, at last
  • Excellent performance and battery life

THE BAD

  • More expensive than the model it replaces
  • New power adapter is a paid upgrade on some configs
  • New webcam adds a screen notch
