Description

Is Lenovo legion 5 Pro (2021) worth it?

The 2021 Lenovo Legion 5 Pro has some big shoes to fill in the shadow of its little brother, and from what I’ve heard from Linus Tech Tips, OwnorDisown, and read on back2gaming – this gaming laptop delivers! You’ll get great performance with a cooling system that can handle both RTX 3070 and the AMD 5800H. Plus you have battery life that will last long enough on a single charge for your long gaming sessions. And finally, as if all those things weren’t enough- an amazingly smooth screen perfecting the package. If you’re looking to buy one? There’s no doubt about it: go ahead without any hesitation!

Doing research in my spare time on tech is a thing I really love to do! When you decide to buy well-researched tech via an affiliate link on this site I’ll earn tech/gadget money (woohoo!) and you don’t pay a higher price!

THE GOOD

  • Great performance and cooling
  • Very smooth screen
  • Great keyboard

THE BAD

  • Quite loud when gaming and demanding loads
  • Trackpad placement is realy bad
  • Battery life on gaming is short

Which Lenovo legion 5 Pro (2021) should you buy?

Looking to buy the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro? Can’t blame you, this is one crazy laptop for a great price! For optimal performance should get the AMD Ryzen 7 5800H with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3070. These specifications are great in this laptop because it gets cooled just enough to run your favorite games and programs perfectly.

Is Lenovo legion 5 Pro (2021) good for gaming?

GAME BENCHMARKS

Gaming benchmarks differ from reviewer to reviewer because of the settings used. But looking at some of the results you can figure, this is a great gaming laptop for 1080P with settings to highest or 1600P with settings on medium. The benchmarks below are a summary from Terafied, Gadgetmatch, Hardware Canuks, Jarrod Tech, and Matthew Moniz.

At least 60 FPS is recommended, but higher gives a smoother gameplay.

I also suggest looking at this comprehensive gaming benchmark list of your favorite games

Is Lenovo legion 5 Pro (2021) good for creators?

From the moment you first open this laptop, it’s evident that Lenovo made a gaming laptop. With the spartan helmet-ish logo on the back and the RGB lights through the keyboard, I can imagine this isn’t clean enough (though look at the white version) to have the design a creator would like. But it’s ticking all the boxes you need.

lenovo legion 5 pro stingray
Lenovo legion 5 pro stingray (white version)

It is a large laptop with a 16″ screen. This is nice when editing video’s so you can see just a little more while scrubbing through your timeline. Furthermore, the screen has a 100% sRGB color accuracy. In terms of performance, you really can’t go wrong, and this will run everything you throw at it with ease and does it well. It even checks the ports box, only lacking an SD card slot. With outstanding performance comes low battery life; although I didn’t find any review regarding this topic, I suspect the laptop won’t get more than a few hours.

CREATOR BENCHMARKS

Only 2 reviewers look into the creator benchmarks. So this ain’t much, but here are the results. All tests were done with Puget Systems Benchmark and were done by Jarrod Tech and Matthew Moniz.

Is Lenovo legion 5 Pro (2021) good for an average user?

This depends, are you a user that does intense gaming or video editing or even 3D work? If you answer these questions with no, then please, stay away from this laptop. It’s just too expensive for watching Netflix and browsing the web. And if you’re gaming, please don’t buy this if those are light titles like my favorite game League of Legends.

Can you upgrade the Lenovo legion 5 Pro (2021)?

It’s possible to upgrade the Legion 5 Pro. When opening the back of the laptop you have access to 2 memory DDR4 slots and 2 NVME SSD slots. That’s how far the upgrade goes. If you want to see how to upgrade the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro or how to disassemble the Lenovo Legion 5 pro, see the video below from laptopmedia.

How long does the Lenovo legion 5 Pro (2021) last on battery?

With the tests done by Jarrod’s tech, the laptop will last you about 9.5 hours watching youtube with Optimus enabled (Lenovo’s optimization) and screen on 60Hz. Playing the Witcher 3 on default values lasts about 2 hours.

This laptop is a beast. It comes with the latest graphics card and CPU on the market, which means that it’s capable of running all your games at top speed without overheating (with some trickery that Linus explains) or lagging out during those long gaming sessions. The screen has been designed for gamers who want to have more space in their game (some titles support this), while still maintaining great color accuracy and refresh rates that keep you engaged in what’s happening as quickly as possible

Best Lenovo legion 5 Pro (2021) accessoires

When considering the best accessories for your future to be a laptop, Lenovo legion 5 Pro of 2021, I would consider the G502 Hero mouse, because of its wired accuracy and easy to adapt dpi precision. Finally my personal favorite keyboard, the Corsair Gaming K70 MK.2. Although it has the name gaming in it, it’s still great for creators!

Bottom Line
This laptop is a great laptop for gamers, I mean, it’s literally a gaming laptop. It’s sturdy, well made, and very powerful. Although not intended for creators, this laptop really has great hardware to perform very well for speedy renders. At this price point, you can’t expect anything different. You need to calibrate the screen though. If you are an average user, browse on the laptop, watch some Netflix and play some casual games, I wouldn’t recommend this laptop for you. It has so much more power than you need. Go with a cheaper laptop and get a full-fledged setup with a mouse, keyboard, monitor, and backpack for the same price.

Lenovo legion 5 Pro (2021) alternatives

Good alternatives for the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro are the ROG Zephyrus G15, Legion 5 and TUF A15

Asus ROG Zephyrus G15 (2021)

This laptop is insanely good, with a track record that shows. With all popular games played on the highest settings without breaking a sweat, you can safely say that this is the laptop to beat. With an AMD Ryzen 9 5900HS, RTX 3070, DDR4 16GB of RAM, and NVME 512GB of SSD storage, this out chines the Legion 5 Pro.

Lenovo Legion 5/5i (2020)

The little brother of the Legion 5 Pro, the Legion 5 is really great gaming laptop. Although the hardware is now ‘old, it can still play the latest game with ease and has a nice spec to price ratio. With a last-gen AMD Ryzen 4800H, GTX 1650, DDR4 8GB of RAM, and 512GB SSD storage, this is still a great laptop if you don’t play with ray-tracing.

Asus TUF A15 (2020)

If you want to go cheapest on gaming laptops, the Asus TUF A15 is the one to get. Last year, this laptop was every reviewer’s favorite budget gaming laptop. Rocking an AMD Ryzen 74800H, RTX 2060, DDR4 16GB of memory, and 1TB of NVME SSD storage, this is nice!

Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo Legion 5 Pro 16” gaming laptop with a AMD Ryzen 7 5800H processor, NVIDIA RTX 30 graphics and a QHD+ 16:10 aspect ratio display. Thanks to our sponsor Trend Micro and their Home Network Security Device. Visit them here https://bit.ly/3hhsl4d and use the code LISA20 to save $20. The Legion 5 Pro is one of stronger picks among 2021 gaming laptops for performance, price, thermals and display quality. It’s available with NVIDIA RTX 3060 and 3070 graphics (not Max-Q and with a mux switch). The laptop has beefy cooling, good build quality with an aluminum casing and an RGB keyboard. It competes with the Alienware m15 R5, Asus ROG Strix 15 and forthcoming Intel 11th gen gaming laptops.
